How to Use Pinterest for Green Business
After spending a few days absorbed in Pinterest, I thought I’d share some tips and tricks. Pinterest is a new social networking site based on images. Your page is basically a cork board with everything you pin to it being something you want to remember, keep or share. You have to be invited to join [...]
Pin ItHow to Prevent Facebook Page Spam
How much spam does your Facebook page receive? How much does it cost you to manage your page and keep spam away? Would it surprise you to learn that big brands pay $2,000 to $25,000 per month for spam removal?
How to Break into Natural Products by Bob Burke
Bob Burke is a rock star in the natural products world. Walk down the aisles of Whole Foods and pick almost any nationally recognized brand, and chances are he’s consulted for them. He is also the co-author and co-publisher of the Natural Products Field Manual, Fifth Edition and The Sales Manager’s Handbook. Prior to consulting, [...]
Facebook — Is Your Privacy Even an Issue?
I always have so much Facebook news that it’s hard to get it all posted. Many of my clients are not huge Facebook or blog readers so I’m trying to do a digest whenever my folder gets full and include what you need to know in one easy article. Here’s this week’s edition: Facebook Apps [...]
Email Campaigns That Work (and Some That Don’t)
I got an email yesterday from a well-known local business. Actually, from what appears to be the owner of this business. It came from his personal account although I’ve never talked to him before and have no idea who he is. Here’s the subject line: “Hi, it’s me John Doe. I am sending this to every contact I have on here. You either know me as that tree guy or that comedian, or both if we actually ‘know’ each other…”
14 Things Every Business Should Know About Social Media
The biggest roadblock for social media newbies is the tremendous amount of information already out in the ether about social media. You learn immediately that the key to social media mastery is sifting through all the noise — both in terms of what you need to be more productive and reach more eyeballs with your brand, but also in how you decide to use your time. But, where to start? I’ve assembled links to the 20 articles I’m recommending for all my clients just taking their first baby steps into social media.
Privacy Concerns, Meet Responsible Marketing
I’ve read this article from Fast Company three or four times in the past week or so. First of all, I’ve been on a rant about privacy concerns, especially after talking with what I would consider a pretty random sample of people over the weekend about Facebook and privacy.
Facebook Fan Pages: Who’s Your Daddy?
I learned something new last week. Not that I don’t learn something new every day, but this stood out. Facebook does not allow the creator of the fan page to be removed from an admin role. This means that every single one of the thousands of companies who had an employee create their fan page are in a pretty tight spot. You can’t remove that employee from an admin position on the page. I don’t have any solutions for you if this describes your situation.
Do You Have What it Takes?
I found this article today from the Harvard Business Review with a checklist for entrepreneurs. I’m focusing and building my own business (versus doing corporate work and building someone else’s business) but that list still provides good fodder. There’s no doubt that I ace the Isenberg 2-Minute Test. And, I was racing through the second test feeling pretty good about things until I got to the last three points.
