If you want to play around with it and get familiar without anyone seeing your new profile/timeline (you have seven days to work out how you want your profile to look before anyone can see your changes) go here and click on the green button at the bottom of the page that says “Get Timeline”.

I think the new timeline looks a lot like a blog, and the options are well thought out. Regardless of how you use Facebook, it makes it easier to show people what you’re all about.
